History:
CLE International is a leading French publisher, specialised in French as a Second Language. It publishes a variety of courses and textbooks for learners of French at all levels. CLE International is a publishing company created in 1973, specializing in French as a foreign language (FLE), that is to say the French language learned by non-French speakers. CLE International is one of the specialist publishers of the discipline. More than 100 new titles are published each year and enrich a catalog of nearly 1,000 titles that are broadcast in over a hundred countries. Its main competitors, Hachette FLE (Hachette Education) and Didier FLE (Editions Didier), both belong to the Hachettegroup , and are dedicated departments of publishing houses for other educational purposes. Since 2001, CLE International is also the editor of the journal of the International Federation of French Teachers (FIPF): French in the World, the only international journal, created in 1961, devoted to teachers of French from around the world. CLE International took flight within the Havas, VUP and Editis groups successively. The Editis Group has 2,600 employees and more than 40 publishing brands, for an annual turnover of 760 million euros in 2008, making it the second largest publishing company in France.
